Activated only during a disaster
In the event of a community or natural disaster or other critical incident, this emergency hotline staffed by CONTACT Pittsburgh volunteers is activated by the Allegheny County Department of Emergency Services. It provides a telephone resource for local residents who need emotional support and accurate up-to-date information and resources, as well as emotional support during a disaster.
This hotline was established in 1994 after the Flight 427 crash in Hopewell, PA. We responded to community needs following the tragic events of 9-11, answering calls by children and adults. Most recently, the public inquiry line was activated during Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina.
