Crisis Line Specialist Internship

Internship Areas of Interest: Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Public Health

Description: CONTACT Pittsburgh strives to tailor our internship experience to the needs and interests of the individual student. Internship activities may include serving on the hotline as a Crisis Line Specialist (see requirements below), assisting with hotline administration (e.g., data entry, analysis of hotline trends), assisting with outreach efforts (e.g., flyer distribution, community health fairs), and special projects as required by organization needs (e.g., improving referral materials, research)

Requirements for Crisis Line Specialist Interns: Our 24-hour hotline is staffed entirely by volunteers trained to be Crisis Line Specialists (CLS). Requirements for becoming a CLS include having your own transportation, and completing one of the training programs which are held in the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall (click here for specific information on training.) Students whose hours on the hotline count for credit may serve a maximum of 32 hours (8 shifts) on the hotline per month. Five of those shifts may be taken at any time, but the additional 3 must be overnight shifts (10:45pm-2:45am or 2:45am-6:45am). This stipulation ensures fair distribution of the more popular daytime shifts and also helps us cover the more difficult shifts.

Terms Offered: Fall, Spring and Summer terms

Number of Students: Varies

To Apply: Please complete the training application and indicate that you are interested in an internship position at CONTACT Pittsburgh in the "Additional Comments" section. We will review your application and schedule an interview with you. If you have any questions please contact the Program Director at mwitzig[at]contactpgh.org.
