History
CONTACT Pittsburgh was established in 1971 through the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church faith-based phone ministry. During the first 5 years of the organization's existence, over 100 phone volunteers answered almost 89,000 calls.
Today, CONTACT Pittsburgh is a member of the American Association of Suicidology and is accredited by CONTACT USA, a national association of telephone hotlines in the United States. In over 37 years of existence, CONTACT Pittsburgh has received many awards and recognition for its high quality service. We have been recognized as the Primary Suicide Intervention Service in Pittsburgh by WTAE-TV, the Voluntary Health Agency of the Year, the recipient of the Benjamin Rush Organizational award and statewide recognition from the Pennsylvania Psychological Association. In addition to CONTACT Pittsburgh's multiple telephone support services, we also offer high-quality training and community education.
